Tropical Fish Bags

Tropical fish bags are specially designed to hold water and live fish during transport, making them essential for pet stores, aquarium suppliers, fish farms, and aquatic wholesalers. At Rutan Poly, we manufacture custom poly bags made for one clear purpose — to ship tropical fish and other aquatic species with confidence safely.

Each bag is made to your size, strength, and sealing needs, and manufactured in-house at our New Jersey facility for reliable quality and fast delivery.

Tropical Fish Bags

What Makes a Tropical Fish Bag Different?

Unlike standard poly bags, fish bags must be able to hold both water and live animals without leaking, tearing, or collapsing. They’re typically made from strong LDPE or LLDPE film and are heat-sealable to create a watertight environment.

Bags may be double-bagged for added protection, and can be used with oxygen or breathable water mixtures, depending on the shipping method. The material must also be clear enough for visual inspection while offering sufficient stretch and toughness to withstand temperature fluctuations, movement, and pressure.

Common Use Cases

Our tropical fish bags are used across a wide range of aquatic transport applications, including:

  • Retail aquarium and pet shops

  • Tropical and freshwater fish suppliers

  • Aquatic plant and coral shipping

  • Invertebrate and shrimp packaging

  • Fish farms and hatcheries

  • Hobbyist event and trade show transport

Each of these environments has slightly different packaging requirements, and we work with you to get the right film type, thickness, and size to match your workflow.

Bag Styles & Options

Rutan Poly manufactures every bag to order. No stock sizes or imported material — everything is made at our New Jersey plant to your exact specs.

Customization options include:

  • Custom sizes (width, length, and gauge)

  • Flat, gusseted, or double-bottom seal

  • Heat sealable or taped top options

  • Extra-strong bottom seals for water weight

  • Clear film or tinted options

  • Printed warnings or branding (1–9 colors)

  • Packed in wicketed stacks, loose, or boxed

  • Double bag configurations for added strength

If you’re unsure about the best gauge or seal type, we can help you choose based on the weight of the water, duration of transport, and the species being shipped.

Built for Aquatic Shipping Workflows

Whether you’re packing a single goldfish or a whole shipment of tropical fish for export, your bags have to perform. That means:

  • No leaks, even under movement

  • Flexible film that doesn’t crack or split

  • Easy sealing (heat seal or fold & tape)

  • Clarity for inspection and labeling

  • Strong bottom seals to support water weight

  • Proper oxygen retention when needed

Many of our clients use our bags in combination with styrofoam shippers, outer boxes, and heat packs or cold packs. We’ll work with you to ensure your inner bag setup withstands the rigors of shipping and handling.
